introduction

Agri-electronics is an emerging and multidisciplinary frontier of advanced research, which takes convergent and holistic, looks at all the related areas in agricultural sector to ensure optimum induction of IT and Electronics for improvement of productivity, quality and value. As we know, today we are dealing with three economies, namely industrial economy, digital economy and green economy. The land, labour and capital are the key factors in industrial economy. In digital economy, human mind, human will and human ingenuity assume importance. In green economy, products based on nature are basically dealt with and agricultural products form the principal component of this domain. Research & Development in Agri-electronics is a potential vehicle for digitization of green revolution and promises catalytic role in national agricultural development in terms of diversification, enhancing productivity, adding value, capturing markets, mixing farm and off-farm income, entering and creating marketing chains, improving food quality and safety and balancing ecological interests. If innovations of electronics, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Advanced Computing merge with agriculture and producers, it can offer tremendous opportunities for improvements in quality and value in Indian agriculture and food processing sector. Agri-electronics takes convergent and holistic look at all the related areas in Indian agricultural sector.

C-DAC has already identified this thematic area as one of its advanced research destinations. This Project roposes setting-up of a Resource Center at C-DAC, Kolkata for exploration and persuasion of new innovations in the field of agri-Electronics that would lead to pragmatic, affordable and cutting edge technology solutions for Indian agricultural Community.

Vision

Introducing Electronics and Information Technology in the field of Agriculture and Environment to empower productivity, quality. To build a centralized resource & training facility for ICT research in the field of Agriculture and Environment.

Objectives

To set-up an integrated facility for advanced research in the multi-disciplinary field of Agri-Electronics leading to a) technology demonstrators and b) indigenous electronics and IT-based products and services for Indian Agricultural community.

To provide IT based services and consultancy to agricultural entrepreneurs, researchers and other stakeholders on specialized solutions developed under the aegis of the center.

To conduct special training programme on advanced agri-tech topics.

To promote national and international level networking, collaboration and alliances in the field of agri-elctronics.
